You must prove your identity to onboard, accept memberships, and reset your passcode. An identity document is always required for identification. This article describes the accepted identity documents.
Identity document requirements
- Originality: you must use an original document for identification; digital or photocopied duplicates aren’t accepted.
- Validity: your document must be current and not expired.
- Integrity: your document should be clear, undamaged, and without smudges, blurriness, or alterations.
- Document visibility: no information on your document should be obstructed or hidden.
- Accuracy: your document must reflect your current details; for example, if you’ve changed your name, the ID should show the updated name.
- Consistency: the information on your document must match the details entered when you created your payment account (during onboarding).
Accepted document types
In the identification process, you may be required to choose from some of the following documents types*:
- National identity card
- Passport
- Residence permit
- Driving license
If you aren’t presented with a list of documents to choose from, or if your document is not accepted, submit a request to Swan Support.
Accepted document examples
Identity documents can differ in design and details, but they contain similar elements, such as your personal data, document number, nationality, date of birth, the issue and expiration dates, and security features.
The following examples show the typical characteristics of different identity document types.

The following is an example of a Spanish national identity card for demonstration purposes only.
- Country identifier: the flag or name of the issuing country.
- Document type: specifies the type of official identification document.
- Document number: a unique number for identification purposes.
- Personal data: names, gender, nationality, birthdates, and other biographic information.
- Validity dates: identity card issuance and expiration dates.
- Authentication element: the individual’s signature.
- Photo: an image of the national identity card holder for visual identification.
You're required to show the front and the back of your national identity card.

The following is an example of a French passport for demonstration purposes only.
- Document type: indicates the document is a passport.
- Issuing country name: the country that issued the passport (in this case, France).
- Document number: a unique passport number for identification purposes.
- Personal data: last name, given names, date and place of birth, nationality, and physical characteristics.
- Validity dates and issuing authority: passport issuance date, expiration date, and issuing authority.
- Authentication element: the machine-readable zone (MRZ) with encoded elements for security measures.
- Photo: an image of the passport holder for visual identification.
You’re required to show the biodata page of your passport.

The following is an example of a Dutch driver's license for demonstration purposes only.
- Country identifier: the country that issued the driver's license (in this case, the Netherlands).
- Document type: "RIJBEWIJS" indicates the document is a Dutch driver's license.
- Personal data: last name, first name (and initials), date and place of birth.
- Validity dates and issuing authority: license issuance date, expiration date, and issuing authority.
- Document number: shows a unique identifier assigned to the driver's license.
- Authentication element: the machine-readable zone (MRZ) with encoded elements for security measures.
- Photo: an image of the driver's license holder for visual identification.
You’re required to show the front and the back of your drivers license.

The following is an example of a German residence permit for demonstration purposes only.
- Country identifier: indicating the country of issuance (in this case, "D" stands for German).
- Document type: "AUFENTHALTSTITEL" indicates the document is a German residence permit.
- Document number: A sequence of characters representing the unique identifier for this specific document.
- Personal data: last name, first name, sex, nationality, and date of birth.
- Validity date: indicates the residence permit's expiration date.
- Authentication element: the individual’s signature.
- Photo: an image of the residence permit holder for visual identification.
